Football and Politics
I always thought that football was considered enjoyable by Americans across the country. However, recent news goes to show that the NFL is in trouble with their decisions as far as standing or remaining seated for the National Anthem. I do believe that the beautiful thing about America is that people can express their own opinion publicly, the way that many NFL stars are doing. My question is.... when will people see that enough is enough? While many people believe that this is a form of immense disrespect, others see it as a way for individuals to unite and stand for equality.
I asked my husband, a Marine and fellow political junky what he thought about the whole situation and his answer really shocked me. "They aren't idiots. I took an oath to defend the Constitution not the National Anthem. Although I don't necessarily agree with the opinions of those kneeling during the national anthem, the exact definition of the nation of America is to be able to live in a country wherein you're free from persecution of personal beliefs and ideologies, so the athletes currently protesting the national anthem are completely within their rights to protest peacefully and anyone who wants to take that from them are far less patriotic than them."
Iurge readers to think deeply about his statement, and also read the article I am sharing from BBC. What do you think of people's rights to peacefully protest? Do you think there's a right or wrong way to do so? Check the article out here: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41407176
