Me Too- From Hashtag to History

The hashtag most commonly seen on Facebook and Twitter titled #metoo is to bring awareness to Harvey Wainsten's sexual allegations. Amazingly enough, this tiny gesture has made it's way all the way to the White House where representatives and congressmen and women were asked to share their own experiences. Toni Van Pelt, the president of the National Association of Women asks that we switch the subject from women to men."We must focus on the men. We must be demanding that the men step forward and take responsibility, whether they think they are the good guy or not." The hashtag "#IWillSpeakUp" is pushing for men to acknowledge bad behavior towards women as well as encourage that it is stopped. I remember the day this hashtag became popular. I remember being surprised with how many women, young and old, ones that I had not even spoken to, had placed the hashtag #metoo on their timeline. I'm proud to say that I am a supporter of this movement. I am excited to see what will become of it, and how social media can work to better society.
